Over the past year, our team has visited hundreds of houses with many different kinds of doors. Some have left us duly impressed, while others have simply begged for replacement – yesterday! This just goes to show how much a door contributes to one’s overall impression of a home. Here are some door ideas that we loved in 2014 and look forward to seeing more of this year.
Bold door colors. A pop of color adds a great deal of personality to the entryway of a home. For example, nothing says “Welcome!” more emphatically than a red door. Contemporary designs aren’t the only ones that can pull off bold color; it can also work with a traditional-style home. If your home features a modern design, you can afford to be more experimental with color choices. We’ve seen Red Rock, Forest Green, Dark Bronze: all of which we absolutely love.
Extra-wide doors. Supersized doors also create a welcoming ambiance for an entryway, porch or patio. If you currently have double doors, instead of simply replacing them, consider installing an extra-wide single door and use sidelights to fill in the opening. The patio designs are equally varied – you could go with hinged French doors or traditional gliding models.
Glass doors. Solid entry doors look great but block out natural light, making a home dim inside. Glass doors, on the other hand, permit some illumination and make for a great alternative to a solid door. Retain a degree of privacy by specifying textured or frosted glass.
Traditional French doors. French doors feature two panels designed to swing inward or outward. The panels use glass and often include stylish door hardware. French doors have an elegant qualitythat makes them a beautiful accent for an entryway or a patio.
Gliding French doors. We love this door design so much, we think it deserves its own spot on the list. A gliding French patio door keeps the same styling as its traditional cousin while saving on space. It’s the perfect blend of style and functionality.
